GentlePosted by Bookfool (Mississippi, United States) on 17 August 2009 in Animal & Insect. Another great moment in Arenal, Costa Rica. I was stuck at our hotel due to a monster migraine, while the guys took a boat ride without me. Once I got the pain under control, my camera and I took a walk around the grounds and I happened upon a couple of the groundskeepers. One was very gently holding and petting this baby, showing it off to the second fellow. He didn't seem to speak English and I don't speak Spanish (maybe a whopping ten words -- next time, I'll attempt to learn the language) but he saw my camera and gestured that I should snap a picture or two. When I finished, I nodded to him and he very carefully set the little guy down.

@Lorraine: I knew you'd love this one, Rainy!! Isn't it so sweet the way he held the little guy so gently? @Eleftheria: LOL! @Linerberry: Thank you, Debbie! I'm so glad I had my camera with me. That was a wonderful moment! @jamesy: I know. I wanted to hold him but I had to snap him, instead. @David Nos: Gracias, David! @Judy: I think the bee and bunny pics are a reflection of their huge respect for nature in Costa Rica. There are some barren spots where you can see that a lot of trees have been removed, but otherwise there's a pretty heavy emphasis on preservation, recycling and generally caring for what's left. It's pretty impressive, IMHO. We don't see rabbits at all, here. There are no leash laws. The dogs get 'em. @MARIANA: Thank you! I thought so, too. A friend commented on his grubby hands and I thought she was missing the point. He was a muscular working man, but he held that little guy with such care!! :) @peter: Thank you! I was so happy that I got to see (and snap) that moment! @Earnest: I think they're rather tame. There were rabbits hopping around all over the place at that hotel (each building had two rooms -- it was more like a series of little cabins than a hotel). When I first spotted one of those guys, it was such a perfect little white creature that I thought he was a statue. And, then he hopped. Boy, that was a surprise. @David: Thank you! I think that olive background color was the side of one of the buildings. I was fortunate that he held the bunny up in front of something nice and plain. |
