Walking - Costa Rica #28Posted by Bookfool (Mississippi, United States) on 28 May 2009 in Cityscape & Urban. This photo was taken through a dirty windshield, from my vantage point in the middle of a van. Just so you know why it's a little crappy (although I take plenty of lousy photos that I can't excuse). The reason Costa Ricans are, in general, thin (and Americans are not)? There are always people walking and biking on the road -- very few cars, relatively speaking, at least where we stayed. The locals walk and walk and walk. And, they have some pretty dramatic terrain, heat, and large, loose rocks to deal with. The good news is that drivers yield to pedestrians in Costa Rica. Here, we'd probably get run over if we tried to walk on the road the way the Costa Ricans do, especially if we happened to be walking on a road where people are driving and texting or driving and chatting on a mobile phone. Oh, yeah. That would cover every road. Hahaha. Okay, it's been a long week, already. Forgive that attempt at humor.
