Wings of Glass - Costa Rica #16Posted by Bookfool (Mississippi, United States) on 11 May 2009 in Animal & Insect. Oh, noes! I uploaded this image and it sucks, but Animus3 won't let me change the image. I'm getting an error message. Sorry. At least you get an idea what the see-through butterfly looked like, if a noisy one.

jamesy from christchurch, New Zealanddon't worry about the noise its worth it to see this little beauty 11 May 2009 7:13am @jamesy: Why, thank you, Debbie. :) r00t from Csorna, Hungarygreat shot, and don't worry about noise. sometimes the noise gives some 11 May 2009 7:57am @r00t: True. I've got a couple in this batch to which I've added a grainy effect, but this wasn't supposed to be one of them! Thanks for the visit and comment! P J W Miller from Chase Terrace, United KingdomYour title is perfect for this very nicely taken image, one has to be patient to take these shots 11 May 2009 8:13am @P J W Miller: Thanks, P J W. I'm afraid I was more sweaty than patient, although I did keep trying till I got something I thought might be OK. It was hot in those little butterfly rooms. This was the darkest of the three separate butterfly zones, which also meant the lighting was rough. I'll post another one that shows what happens when you use flash on a fellow with see-through wings. Soon. I have to look for a silly photo for Tuesday, though! @Ravi: Why, thank you, Ravi! Thanks for the visit and the comment! Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaBut still it's wonderful because that little butterfly looks like a fairy...It was meant to be seen! next time you can't change a photo, click the remove photo instead...that works and then you can upload (happened to me yesterday too) ps do not click a remove photo that you're alreadyposted or you'll lose all the comments if ever you want to change a photo and not lose comments let me know, and I'll tell you step by step ;) 11 May 2009 10:44am @Lorraine: They are really remarkable little creatures and difficult to find. The fellow who ran the butterfly farm told us to take our time, be patient, look carefully because the clear wings are hard to spot. Can you send me the step-by-step instructions? It was the remove button that wasn't working. It's probably fine, now -- might have just needed to reboot, but I closed the window and returned and still couldn't get it to work. Earnest from Oklahoma, United StatesI think it works well.... and is interesting. Yeah, sometimes the aminus3 interface is a bit tricky to out maneuver.. 11 May 2009 11:08am @Earnest: Thank you! I think it was just one of those computer flukes, really. I've used the remove button, quite a bit. It just wasn't functioning and I repeatedly got an error message. Sometimes it can just mean you need to reboot, when those little things cease to function. Judy from Brooksville, Florida, United StatesI agree with Lorraine ... this little fairy was meant to be seen! Also the remove photo has worked for me. 11 May 2009 11:14am @Judy: I love it that you two call it a little fairy. :) The remove button usually works. It just wasn't, yesterday. I don't normally get an error message and the problem could have been at my end. I want to know the other option, too! MrsAmber from West Wickham, United KingdomI think it's a fantastic shot; incredibly delicate wings are there to be shown. Works very well. God bless aminus for not letting you change it! 11 May 2009 12:27pm @MrsAmber: Ha, I'm not sure I'd bless that trick button, but I'm glad you liked the shot (and apparently a lot of other people did, also!). Thanks! @Onlymehdi: Thank you for the visit and comment! @Craig: Yes, they're really quite stunning. When my husband first spotted one, I think we all actually gasped. They really do take your breath away. peter from new york, United Statesthose transparent wings are crazy! never seen anything like it. great capture : ) 11 May 2009 7:52pm @peter: LOL! I've seen pictures in books, but this was my first time seeing a butterfly with clear wings in real life. Thanks, Peter. They really are lovely creatures. :) Richard_Irwin from Belper, United KingdomI like these butterflies, the clear wings are miraculous, and they fly so effortlessly 11 May 2009 10:05pm @Richard_Irwin: That's a great way to put it: "miraculous". They're such beautiful little things. Lee from Fort Frances Ontario, CanadaA great shot. Never saw anything like this before. Thank you for sharing. I glad you did not remove it. Unless of course you have a better shot of this beauty. 12 May 2009 4:43am @Lee: I have a shot I took with flash that is a little clearer and lights up the wings, but it's not really all that much better so I'm thinking I should skip it. Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed this photo! Lesley from Lincoln, United StatesI think this is a fantastic shot, noise and all! What an amazing butterfly!!! Well caught, BF! Speaking of computer glitches, the gremlins must've been out the other night. I was booking a hotel (online) for the 23rd and for some strange reason, unbeknownst to me, the computer calendar scheduled it for the day I made the reservation (the 9th) and I wound up getting charged for that night! We weren't even there!! Argh!!! And we still need the room for the 23rd, so we're basically paying double. Keep your fingers crossed that the hotel manager will be a saint when I call tomorrow am. 13 May 2009 1:47am |
