Blue Mot Mot - Costa Rica #4

We went for a walk around the hotel grounds, shortly after our arrival in Monteverde, and this fellow was beneath the trees. He was surprisingly disinterested in us and didn't even mind that I needed to use the flash. This is one of the few birds I managed to look up in a bird guide tucked into the seat of one of our taxis. Unfortunately, I had to put it back and hold on for dear life. We did have a couple of really scary drivers (most were terrific).

Beautifully shot,amazing colours and good dof...Seems the Mot Mot is not the most active of birds it sits on it's branch for ages just waiting for it's dinner to come to him..."Come to think of it a bit like me".

@Linerberry: I turned on my freeze ray and made him sit perfectly still. Or, he might have just been a really great model. ;)

A fine capture! On our last trip to Costa Rica we rented a vehicle and drove ourselves to avoid taxi drivers. So instead, my brother-in-law almost killed us in a near collision with a motorcycle! Ya just can't trust anyone anymore!

@Craig: LOL! Well, those roads are pretty rough! I was actually quite impressed with most of our drivers. They were cautious and drove at reasonable speed -- particularly those from the company that picked us up at the airport and then returned us to San Jose. The taxi-boat-taxi company was another story. We all thought we were going to die, for certain.

@Lorraine: Why, thank you, Rainy. That's a huge compliment! I like to think of myself as primarily a nature photographer, but possibly a Nature Photographer Who Needs to Get Out More Often.

@Roman: Absolutely. I've never seen such a stunning variety in my life. There were plenty of birds that I missed out on snapping and just admired. I'm thinking maybe 2 weeks would be good, next time around.
