Backlit dogwoodPosted by Bookfool (Mississippi, United States) on 26 March 2009 in Plant & Nature. It's like . . . rock star lighting. Seemingly everything is blooming, right now, apart from yesterday's pecan tree with the bluebird. Pecans must be slow to bud. We're having a stormy week so I'll dip into my botanical garden photos until the sun shines and I can get out, again.

Jeff from Pembroke Dock, Wales., United KingdomJust beautiful, I especially like the little bud on the right "A promise of things to come" . 26 Mar 2009 8:27am Judy from Brooksville, Florida, United StatesThis is absolutely GORGEOUS ....... and the variety of Dogwood I'm familiar with too! Mucho stars! 26 Mar 2009 11:30am grouser from Ludlow, United KingdomVery nice too 26 Mar 2009 5:05pm @grouser: It's really kicked off, I promise. The azaleas, wisteria, redbuds and a whole lot of other flowering trees are blooming. I was wrong about the pears, though -- they're already in full leaf. Vicksburg is very colorful, right now. It looks like it's decked out for a wedding. You would love it, Sir Grousalot. It would take the grouse right out of you and we'd have to change your name to Mr. Happy. MontereyJohn from Salinas, California, United StatesWell done, Book! Hey, are you guys OK down there? I heard about the storms. Sounded pretty grim. 26 Mar 2009 5:18pm @MontereyJohn: Thanks, John! Yes, we're fine. There were some trees down in our area and power outages, but the tornadoes were southeast and due east of us. It was a long, noisy night. Sunny and gorgeous, today! Richard_Irwin from Belper, United KingdomDelightfully captured, the lighting is excellent 26 Mar 2009 7:46pm Lesley from Lincoln, United StatesLovely photo, as usual. Glad you're all ok, Nancy. I was worried about ya!! Don't you just love spring storms? ;) 26 Mar 2009 10:13pm @Lesley: Thanks, Les. It was a long night. I'd love those spring storms a lot more if we had a basement to hunker down in. We just try to sleep if we can. Fortunately, we didn't lose power so I was able to read till the storm passed (about 3am -- I'm kind of staggering, today). nadia from Canberra, Australiawow, what a lovely shot! the petals remind of onions! haha they're really prettyyyy! great job! :) i'm seriously missing spring.. 27 Mar 2009 12:10am Roman from Thunder Bay, CanadaNow... my dear, let me stop for a second and ponder this... if I may indulge in a guessing game for a second... you had stopped for a moment and thought about the composition and an angle... and decided to shoot from below towards the sun... am I right ??... ... your lighting and composition are great and you can be proud of this image !!!!!! PS did I forget to mention that I'm clicking 5 stars here ???.... (bwaaaaa !!!!!)
27 Mar 2009 1:16am @Roman: Well, hmm, really it went like this . . . I was walking along a path in the botanical gardens and spotted the lovely backlit blooms. The lighting really was spectacular and it was just there, staring me in the face. So I experimented a little (did a little bracketing) to capture the glow of the petals and, yes, I did work on the composition. I wanted branches that led your eye to those blooms without drawing attention away from them. 5 stars, eh? Why, thank you! Linerberry from Sumner, Christchurch, New ZealandOutstanding!!!! They look like they really are outstanding and jumping out of the screen!!! Stunning! 28 Mar 2009 6:21am Earnest from Oklahoma, United StatesWow... really excellent... and the one wildflower I seem to be missing from around here... just can't locate one of these blooming. 28 Mar 2009 3:46pm @Earnest: We have dogwoods all over the place, but the trouble is that most of them are on private property and we're all two-lane, winding roads without shoulders. It's not easy to find places to pull over, and if you do . . . well, let me tell you, I've had a few people walk outside and say, "Is there a problem?" Meaning, what the hell are you doing snapping photographs on my property? I was relieved to finally find an easy-access dogwood!!! |
