One way to find the front door a bit easierPosted by Bookfool (Mississippi, United States) on 14 January 2009 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio. Les suggested I post this photo, taken Friday night. I walked outside not realizing there was a gorgeous full moon and I can't even remember why -- probably to take out the trash. When I saw the moon, I went rushing inside to grab the camera. And yes, darn it. Hand-held. Sigh. I need someone to stand next to me and slap me on the head when I grab the camera without bothering with the tripod. It's not like I don't own a tripod, after all.

@vahid: You said quite a lot with that one word. Many thanks. :) Linerberry from Sumner, Christchurch, New ZealandAbsolutely outstanding my friend!!!!! tripod or no tripod!!! i could almost step into your image and be on the moon!!! I so wish i had a camera that could get such detail! Wicked!!!! Oh and 5 stars!!! 14 Jan 2009 7:03am @Linerberry: Well, thank you!!! I really do need to start using that tripod. Imagine what it could have looked like without a little hand wobble!! Laura from Birmingham, United Kingdomfantastic detail, and so well exposed to get this much detail. 14 Jan 2009 7:27am @Laura: Thank you! I did a good bit of playing with the exposure. Markela from Athens, GreeceHello, Bookfool! I must tell you, your image is quite eye-catching!! One of the nicest shots of the moon that I have ever seen! Good job, nicely done! 14 Jan 2009 7:52am @Markela: Thank you very much, Markela! jamesy from christchurch, New ZealandWow Nancy that is stunning I thought that I might get some of the full moon this month but wouldn't you know it cloud every night. Mine wouldn't be this good anyway. You must have steady hands girl 14 Jan 2009 8:12am @jamesy: Aw, Debbie, you should have come to the other side of the globe! We had a good view -- well, at least the one night. It's rained quite a bit here, too. I do have steady hands, but I also take a deep breath and let it out verrrrrry slooooowly. That helps. @Betty: Thank you, Betty! @grouser: Hahaha! Sometimes, Grousie, I just don't know how to reply. Your wit leaves me speechless. My entire household just sighed and said, "I wish." About the speechless bit. @Rich: Yours is better. :) Lesley from Lincoln, United StatesAnd you call yourself an amateur. Ha! 14 Jan 2009 11:48am @Lesley: I'm an amateur, all right. A pro wouldn't keep running out the door without a tripod! LOL Thanks, Les. :) Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaWow I don't thinks I've ever quite seen it that perfect...it's a perfect MOON, wow you are impressive Booky! 14 Jan 2009 3:37pm @Lorraine: Aw, Rainy, you're just saying that 'cause you love me! LOL Thank you, babe. :) Jeff from Pembroke Dock, Wales., United KingdomI still can't believe men have walked up there..Amazing hand held shot my friend... 14 Jan 2009 4:16pm @Jeff: Yes, it's hard to believe, isn't it? Even moreso is the thought that we simply stopped visiting the moon. I think in my child's heart I was certain I'd be living there, by now. LOL Thanks! Jeff from Pembroke Dock, Wales., United KingdomI still can't believe men have walked up there..Amazing hand held shot my friend... 14 Jan 2009 4:33pm @Jeff: Twice the disbelief in one day. :) @Eleftheria: I'll take that as a compliment. Thanks! Roman from Thunder Bay, Canadawell, at this shutter speed it looks like you did OK. It's a great shot ! cheers 14 Jan 2009 5:36pm @Roman: Yep, that's it. It's the shutter speed. I'm not sure how far I went; probably to 1/2500. That got me a dark blob. The opposite gets you a white fuzzball. This is what's so fun about photography -- figuring it all out. EYES WIDE SHUT from The library of my soul, United KingdomHoly Crow, this is a stunner! 14 Jan 2009 7:19pm @EYES WIDE SHUT: "Holy Crow" is a totally new expression for me. Can I borrow it, some time? And, thank you! Kathryn from Warburton, Australiano way - hand held?!?!?!? are you fibbing??? hahaha... this is Super-Duper!!! 14 Jan 2009 7:35pm @Kathryn: Yes, hand-held. Not fibbing. I seriously need to get my act together, but at least I'm fortunate to have steady hands. Thanks, Kathryn. :) Judy from Brooksville-Florida,, United StatesThis is very good ... and now I remember why my camera sits ON it's tripod in the living room! :D 14 Jan 2009 7:53pm @Judy: Thanks, J. You know, sometimes I get the camera all set up like that (or, actually, the husband gets my camera all screwed onto the tripod) and then I just end up irritated. When you take a lot of photos of things like birds flitting in the trees and you haven't had much practice, it just seems easier to do without. But, I know that's a bad thing. I was horrible at moon shots till I read that you should expose for daylight. Wow, that helped. It didn't occur to me that it's essentially daylight on the moon that you're looking at. Now, now, no pouting. Richard_Irwin from Belper, United KingdomThats about as clear a moon shot as you can get, I'm sure you didn't ned your tripod on that night 14 Jan 2009 9:52pm Rich from Gray, United StatesBookfool, friends of mine in the business tell me that the ideal shutter speed for moon shots is 1 over your focal length. Which, for this shot (if your data is correct), would be 1/750 second. Not that there is anything wrong mind you... but it is what I am told. You then adjust aperture for proper exposure. Try that method next time and see if it works for you. ;) 15 Jan 2009 1:16am Raaji from Washington DC, United Statesconsidering it is handheld. It is a pretty darn awesome shot :-) 15 Jan 2009 4:04am MontereyJohn from Salinas, California, United States750mm???? All right, that's it, I going to come out there and steal that thing! :) Great image. Hows the arm wrestling thing going? 15 Jan 2009 7:58am baobab from Cambridge, United Stateshandheld works at 1/1600, even with that massive zoom. nice shot. 16 Jan 2009 5:47pm peter from new york, United Stateswow. absolutely stunning. i can't believe it was hand held!! bravo : ) 22 Jan 2009 9:11pm |
