Let's go sand on the parking lot, shall we?

Phone photo #1 - This nifty (and probably rather old) sanding machine sits in the parking lot outside my son's apartment in Memphis. I had the 500 mm lens on my camera . . . and I was feeling a wee bit overwhelmed, possibly more than a mite lazy. So, I took this photo on a whim with my camera phone. The quality is poor, but I think it nicely illustrates the fact that an interesting subject is still worth snapping, even if the camera is total crap.

Am I missing something here?
Why does a sanding machine sit in a car park?
Is it a community one for people to bring along bits of wood they want to buff up?

@grouser: Actually, Grousie, I don't believe anyone's using it, at the moment. But, that's a lovely idea: a community sanding machine. Really, I have no idea why it's there. My son's apartment has bars on the windows, which indicates to me that people probably don't leave things out unless they're not working.

@k@: Lorraine's is much, much better. She really captured a fascinating moment. You do have to wonder why a sander is sitting around a parking lot with leaves curling around its base, though. Thanks for visiting me! :)

@Earnest: Thank you! I'm fairly new to ownership of a phone with a camera built in and I have to tell you it's such a cool thing to have constant access to a camera, even if the quality is awful. There are times you don't want to lug around the good camera.

@Richard_Irwin: Thank you, Richard. I just saw a photo someone took with a Blackberry Storm (I think that's right), a few days ago, and it made my jaw drop. Some of those funky little electronic things that do everything are pretty darn terrific.
