Water Play #1

This is a photo taken at a fountain in Madison, Mississippi. The blue bits are reflected sky and the tan parts reflect the mall buildings.

Brief note: On weekends, we're going on "mini field trips" to play with the camera, so I will be slower to respond to comments. I'm enjoying getting to know the Animus3 crowd!

Nice shot. I love the background really lets the water standout.

@Charles: Thank you, Charles. I think that background is the main reason I like that particular shot. I moved around a lot and that angle seemed to be one of the best.

I have often thought about trying this type of shot... not so sure I could capture it as well as you though. Great image.

@Rich: Well, thank you for that. You should definitely give it a try, Rich! I actually had no idea what I was doing and thought some of those shots turned out pretty well. This is my first attempt at a close-up water pic. It's difficult, but really fun to play around. I recommend locating a fountain and walking around to try different lighting situations.

@Pixim: Yep, it's not perfect. This was actually my first day out with the new 500mm lens and darned if I didn't go without the tripod. I've got to get over that. The focusing is hard enough. I sat in the grass and braced my elbows against my legs. "Abyss" does have some funky water scenes! LOL

I think its beautiful Nancy I did't even know you could get a photo like this and certainly would never have thought of it. Love the way we all have different ideas on this site

@jamesy: Thanks, Debbie! I'd noticed similar photos and had no idea how people did that water thing until I actually went out and took photos of water at high speed, myself. Oh, yes, I so love the diversity on this site. I've been really inspired by the range of ideas by photographers at Animus3.

Is that a falling droplet?

That is amazing, I know that word can be overused but Im really blown away by that.

The reflections are great, I've never seen anything like that before.

@*Rich*: Yes, that's a falling droplet -- well, several attached, I suppose. I'm so new at this that I didn't realize that it's the high shutter speed that allows you to catch individual droplets in the air. Thanks, "amazing" is a fine choice of wording. It is, as we say, a warm fuzzy when folks say such nice things. I thought that reflection was really cool, too. :)

Wonderful capture, as someone said a water sculpture very appropriate the background really works here
Havent tried these type of shots but imagine there challenging
