I want out of here!Posted by Bookfool (Mississippi, United States) on 10 November 2008 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio. A testy leopard makes faces at her keeper, who stood just outside of the cage. She was obviously in a mood. Taken at the zoo in Jackson, Mississippi.

Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaI hate zoos, animals should be in their natural environment, I hate cages....good shot though Book :) 10 Nov 2008 6:06am @Lorraine: Well, I have a love/hate feeling about zoos. I believe they're building some nice open areas for the big cats and that will improve matters. This one certainly didn't appear to be happy -- she was pacing. Thanks, Lorraine. :) @Rich: Thank you! @*Rich*: I do believe this leopard was trying to let the keeper know how she felt! Thanks! Pixim from Nice, FranceHoulala, very impressive, you take this leopard at one convenient period. But, I acknowledge as Lorraine that I do not like the zoo (like the animals in the circuses, like also too often the human being…) I hope that you will be able to present your work to us on animals taken in their natural environment ;) 10 Nov 2008 7:21pm @Pixim: LOL! Thanks, yes, I think it was a bit of a lucky shot. I don't like to see the large animals caged, but I do love the zoo, otherwise. Our zoo is dramatically improving its facilities and the big cats should have a much nicer environment, soon. There will be plenty of shots taken in natural settings, on my blog. I spend a lot of time chasing down hawks, lizards and other wildlife. :) Toomaj from Tehran, Iranvery majestic moment, great shot of nature, good luck,,, 10 Nov 2008 8:23pm @Toomaj: Thank you! Yes, there was a bit of good luck involved in this one, for sure! :) jamesy from christchurch, New ZealandBeautiful Shot Nancy. Great timing perhaps she had PMT hehehe. I think zoos and wildlife parks are different from what the used to be and play a large part in the preservation of endangered species. Look forward to seeing more of your pictures 10 Nov 2008 8:30pm @jamesy: Thanks, Debbie! LOL, that could be! She was in a really feisty mood. I agree with you -- zoos are not what they were, many years ago. They play a big role in preservation of animals. I do hate to see the larger animals caged because I think they need more space, but our zoo is working on expanding facilities Hopefully, that girl won't be pacing in a cage, forever. :) Les from Lincoln, United StatesExcellent timing! I love this shot. Makes me laugh every time I see it. :) 10 Nov 2008 10:36pm @Les: Thanks, Les! I printed this one out with the cheezburger lettering and then completely forgot to laminate it while I was making bookmarks, yesterday (I keep a copy propped by the computer -- it makes me smile, too). I think I get the same joy from laminating that you get from baking, so I'll go out and cook the leopard photo some day soon. LOL @amy: Yes, very fortunate that I caught that moment. Thanks, Amy! djedfre from schaumburg, United Statespretty cat, though! zoos vary just as much as anything in life (one visit to San Diego Wild Animal Park should calm the most ardent zoo hater) and unfortunately it is the only way many of us will ever see some of these magnificent creatures as they are mercilessly poached in the wild and their natural habitats destroyed. anyone who can see them in their natural environment is very lucky indeed... 11 Nov 2008 7:44am @djedfre: I've never been to San Diego, but my husband has told me it's the most awesome zoo he's ever seen (and he travels all over the place . . . usually, without me, darn it). So true; they're completely different from the torture places they used to be. Ours has been in need of updates for quite some time -- in fact, at one point a cheetah escaped and jumped on a young boy that was teasing the cheetah, so that may be part of the reason they've caged the cats till better facilities are built. I agree completely -- so envious of anyone who can see the magnificent animals from zoos in their natural environment. @Earnest: Yeah, good point. I have trouble just staying inside my house. No bars or anything. LOL |
