Needs paint

We were thrilled when we found out this lighthouse survived Hurricane Katrina. It's in pretty bad condition, though, unfortunately. Sorry so large. I'm still learning how to adjust photos.

Size seems OK to me...That old lighthouse can't be that rickety,someone climbed it to decorate it with the stars and stripes..By the way,nice shot love the contrast. :>)

@Jeff: Thanks, Jeff. The dark areas underneath that surrounding deck are rust. I'm guessing they probably used a cherry picker truck to hang the flag, but it's obviously a sturdy little lighthouse or it would not have survived Katrina because most everything in that area was matchsticks -- there are miles and miles of empty foundations, three years after the hurricane (the population has never rebounded). That deck area is just in need of some maintenance. I've been tinkering and figured out how to resize. Lowering the pixel count helps.

@jamesy: Thank you, Debbie! I just thought it would be better to have the photo fit so that one doesn't have to page down to view. I think I've figured it out. Wahoo for that. :)

Hi Bookfool. I bet it was pretty surreal visiting this area.
Quite a powerful image I feel.

I believe this site automatically resizes images to 800pixels wide, if it is larger than this.

@*Rich*: It was a bit of a shock, really, Rich! We aren't that far from the coast -- about a 3 1/2 hour drive -- but hadn't been there in about 6 years. Last time we visited, casinos were blocking the beaches, the seafood shacks had disappeared and Biloxi had (in our opinion) lost its charm. Now, the beach has been wiped clean, the casinos have moved inland, wildlife is making a comeback and birds are taking over the remains of the piers. The change is almost indescribable. The coastal area was truly flattened.

I've posted a few future pics, today, and found that resizing them (lowering the pixels) works well. It might reduce the quality a bit, though. Thanks for the info!!

@Earnest: Thanks, Earnest! I wish they'd repair it, though. I love that lighthouse and I fear it's going to eventually be a late victim of Katrina. The MS Gulf Coast has not fully rebounded. I should add that I think they're doing the best they can on limited resources.
